I was talking with Waffles last night and admitted that my biggest fear is settling. No other song captures this as well as “The River”. Originally a Springsteen song, Josh Ritter covers it beautifully.
Every time the song comes on I end up putting it on repeat or turning the stereo off after, wanting silence more than another song. Ritter sang this after his October show at 9:30 that Katie and I went to and the sold out crowd was whisper silent, like attentive children.
I won't get started on Josh, as I will go all day, but suffice to say, this cover is a melancholy piece of perfection. Ritter said that Springsteen writes amazing songs about the moments before everything changes forever. Exactly.
